How to Deal with Excessive Burrs on Stamping Parts
Burrs are common defects during stamping production, which affect assembly, appearance and product safety. Below are the main causes and targeted solutions.
1. Check and maintain stamping dies
Worn, damaged or poorly polished die edges are the leading cause of burrs. Regularly grind and polish the cutting edges of punches and dies to keep them sharp. Replace severely worn molds in a timely manner. Keep the mold clearance within the standard range; too large or uneven clearance will produce heavy burrs.
2. Optimize mold clearance
Adjust the gap between punch and die according to material type and sheet thickness. Reasonable clearance ensures clean cutting and minimizes burr formation. Re-calibrate the clearance regularly in mass production.
3. Improve raw material quality
Materials with poor hardness uniformity or rough surface tend to generate more burrs. Select qualified raw metal sheets. Remove oxide scales, rust and dirt on the material surface before processing.
4. Adjust stamping parameters
Control stamping speed and feeding stability. Excessively fast stamping may cause incomplete cutting. Apply suitable stamping lubricant to reduce friction and material tearing at the cutting section.
5. Post-treatment to remove burrs
For finished workpieces, adopt different deburring methods as needed:
Manual grinding for small batches or complex parts.
Tumbling and sanding for mass products.
Mechanical trimming or abrasive blasting for large workpieces.
