Product Details
Furring Channel, commonly known as Cross Tee in suspended ceiling grid systems, is the secondary load-bearing component that vertically clips onto main runners to form a complete square or rectangular supporting grid for ceiling panels. As a necessary matching part of main channel, cross tee shares the load of gypsum boards, mineral wool acoustic tiles, metal ceiling sheets and fireproof boards, working together with main tees, wall angles, ceiling hangers and connecting fittings to build stable false ceiling frameworks. The two names are widely used in different construction markets: “Furring Channel” is popular for light steel keel drywall ceilings, while “Cross Tee” is the standard term for exposed and concealed mineral wool ceiling grids. This product is extensively supplied to interior decoration contractors, engineering companies and building material wholesalers for residential apartments, office buildings, shopping malls, schools, hospitals and all kinds of public interior renovation projects.
Furring channels and cross tees are mass-produced through continuous cold roll forming using premium galvanized steel strips, adopting integrated C-type or special T-type cross-section with double folded reinforcing edges. The folded side flanges effectively boost bending rigidity, tensile strength and anti-deformation performance, so the secondary beams will not bend, sag or deform under long-term uniform load from ceiling panels. Two mature anti-rust surface treatments are provided to adapt to diverse service environments. Electro-galvanized finish offers economical anti-oxidation capacity for dry indoor spaces such as bedrooms, offices and hallways. Hot-dip galvanized coating delivers outstanding long-term corrosion resistance, ideal for high-humidity areas including kitchens, bathrooms, underground parking lots and coastal buildings with salt fog erosion. Customized 304 stainless steel cross tees can be manufactured for special corrosive environments to prevent rust stains from seeping through putty and paint and damaging the decorative surface.
A full range of standard specifications is available to match mainstream ceiling systems. For light steel keel ceilings, furring channels support 38#, 50# and 60# main channel series, with thickness options from 0.6mm to 1.0mm to satisfy lightweight home decoration and heavy-load commercial engineering demands. For mineral wool grid ceilings, cross tees come in standard lengths of 600mm and 1200mm to cooperate with main runners and form 600×600mm or 600×1200mm grid units. Equidistant precision stamping clamping notches are distributed along the body of every cross tee. These standardized bayonets enable quick, tight snap connection with main runners without extra screws, welding or auxiliary locking tools, greatly simplifying on-site assembly procedures. Special splice connectors are equipped to link short cross tees for large-area ceiling layout, ensuring seamless force transmission and consistent flatness of the entire ceiling grid.
In actual ceiling construction, furring channels / cross tees undertake the key task of evenly distributing surface panel weight. After parallel main runners are fixed by ceiling hangers and suspender rods, cross tees are vertically snapped into the prefabricated slots of main channels at equal spacing, creating an interlocked grid structure. This interlaced frame disperses vertical pressure and vibration from air conditioning ducts, ventilation equipment and daily activities, effectively avoiding local ceiling sagging, panel displacement and long-term seam cracking problems frequently seen in shoddy construction. Compared with irregular cut steel strips, standardized cross tees feature uniform stress bearing, higher safety coefficient and neater overall ceiling effect after panel installation.
This secondary ceiling beam series has multiple prominent advantages for construction projects. Firstly, one-piece roll forming removes weak welding joints, greatly improving structural stability and service life. Secondly, intact galvanized isolation layers block moisture and oxygen, lowering later maintenance and replacement costs. Thirdly, pre-punched clamping slots realize fast buckle assembly, shortening construction cycles and cutting labor costs significantly. Fourthly, unified international standard sizes achieve perfect compatibility with all matched ceiling accessories and decorative panels, convenient for one-stop bulk purchasing for global buyers.
Furring channels and cross tees fit all mainstream ceiling materials, including ordinary gypsum boards, moisture-proof plasterboards, sound-absorbing mineral wool tiles, fireproof boards and integrated metal ceiling panels. Besides suspended false ceilings, they can also be applied to wall furring layers, beam cladding and indoor decorative modeling frames. Our factory keeps sufficient stock of standard specifications and accepts OEM customization of thickness, length and surface anti-corrosion treatment for large engineering orders. All products pass strict load-bearing and anti-rust performance tests, with stable consistent quality and competitive factory-direct wholesale prices, making us a reliable supporting component supplier for worldwide ceiling system dealers and interior construction enterprises.
